DESCRIPTION:
Personal debt is something that all Canadians have to deal with. But many are not optimizing their debt strategy. This course will explain everything you need to know to do just that. We’ll start with the root of many debt problems, human nature and how the current ultra-low interest rate environment fuels the problem. We’ll then move on to how to get your credit report free, how to find out your credit score and how to improve it so you minimize the interest you pay. Then, we’ll get into credit cards – how they charge interest if you can’t pay off the balance, and how to find the best points card if you do. Lastly, we’ll deal with the options for getting out of debt.
 
This course is designed to answer all the questions you have about personal debt. You will also get two FREE spreadsheets and links to several websites to help you understand all about personal debt and how to deal with it.

Household debt in Canada: The rising balance and composition of the debt levels of the average Canadian. The ratio of debt to disposable income. The average debt balance of Canadians according to the credit bureaus.
Credit cards.How they calculate interest if you don’t pay by the due date. How to find the best points card if you pay your credit card balance off each month .
Credit reports and scores:
 How to get your credit report free. How to find out your credit score and ways to improve it to minimize the interest you pay. How to protect yourself from identity theft.
Getting out of debt: How to get out of debt yourself including how to track your spending automatically for free. Debt consolidation loans. Credit card balance transfers. The snowball and avalanche methods of getting rid of debt. Using non-profit credit counselling agencies and debt management plans (DMPs).
More drastic debt strategies: Making a consumer proposal to creditors with the help of a Trustee in Bankruptcy, and the process and implications of bankruptcy.
Other.​ Detailed handout of key questions and how they are dealt with by credit counselling DMP, consumer proposal and bankruptcy.
